On our last report I mentioned that the Green River near Pinedale was
fishing well. Right now the Green is fishing great!
Above Warren Bridge for the 18 miles of public access the Golden
Stones have dropped off but you may still find some fish looking up for
this tasty morsel. Try a Yellow Turck's Tarantula in a size 10 as these
fish may take it for a grasshopper. Grey Drakes are out in full force
and often times the fish cannot resist a # 10 Adams fished on a dead
drift near the banks or in the slack water behind exposed boulders. Fish
the adult Drakes in the morning and look for a spinner fall in the mid
afternoon. Under the surface, #12 Beadhead Prince Nymphs and #16 Copper
John's Nymphs have been getting chewed up on a regular basis. Downstream from the Warren Bridge
the fish are thoroughly surface oriented. At times it seems as if they
will rise to anything. The most prolific hatches have been Grey Drakes
and Yellow Sallies, a small yellow stonefly. In the afternoon when these
4 winged sallies emerge try a #14 yellow stimulator or a #14 hot butt
caddis. This past week we have seen very hot days and few clouds. This
has kept the large emergences of Pale Morning Duns from materializing.
Be prepared though, a cloudy day could bring these bugs out in droves.
For the faster more riffle strewn waters of the Green I like a Parachute
PMD (#14 and #16) and a CDC Sparkle Dun PMD in like sizes. The Green River in this area is
also a great streamer
river. To imitate the healthy numbers of sculpin, try Black and Olive Rabbit Leeches in sizes 6 and 4 fished into
the bank and behind every boulder.
