Green River, WY Fishing Report

June 29, 2000

The Green River (near Pinedale, WY) is fishing well. Indeed, now is the time to be on the Green because with the accelerated runoff the hatches have started early and it's hard to tell how long the water levels will stay good.

Above Warren Bridge for the 18 miles of public access the giant Golden Stones and Grey Drakes are being seen and it's just a matter of time before the fish begin to react.

Downstream from the Warren Bridge fish have been up on the Golden Stones and the Grey Drakes have started their daily emergences. Also of note are good hatches of Hendrickson's or (as they are better known in the west) Red Quills. Green Drakes have also been seen. For imitations Size 8 and 10 Yellow Turck's Tarantula's and Yellow Stimulators in like sizes will work for the Golden Stones. For the Grey Drakes a #10 Parachute Adams is pretty hard to beat when fished between 9AM and 2PM. A # 14 or #16 Mahogany Dun will cover well for the Hendrickson hatches.

The Green River in this area is a great streamer river. Try Black and Olive Rabbit Leeches in sizes 6 and 4 fished into the bank and behind every boulder.
