Snake River
Despite high, and still well off color, water conditions the Snake River
is beginning to come around and fishing has been quite good at times.
Nonetheless, we are significantly ahead of schedule (regarding water
clarity) for a "normal" year. Our best guess at this point is that the
river will completely clear in about two to three weeks.
Until that time you can expect good fishing during any period when bugs
are present in good numbers, as they have been lately. Excellent hatches
of stoneflies (yellow, size 10) and caddis in various sizes has the
cutthroats on the move despite reduced visibility.
Stimulators, Elk Hair Caddis, and Trudes will work well for the caddis
while Tarantulas, Stimulators, PMX's, and Bugmeisters will all do the
job for the stones. Don't forget to try twitching the stonefly patterns
on occasion.
Woolly Buggers in dark colors and JJ Specials will move trout when the
dry flies won't. Just don't move them around too fast. The fish will
lose track of them in the low visibility conditions.
Until next time...
